News came down on Monday afternoon as I was watching PTI on my couch that comedian Robin Williams had taken his life. It made me think that we know so much about celebrities in this day & age but at the same time, we don’t know everything. It had been documented that Williams battled with alcoholism and some depression but had no idea that it was to the extreme that he would take his own life. The guy who had made America laugh dressed as a little old lady in San Francisco was gone. The guy who had played Peter Pan in the classic, Hook, was now really in Neverland.
Sports is a big part of my life and when I think about Robin Williams, a scene from Good Will Hunting came to mind. Williams plays Dr. Sean Maguire, Will Hunting’s therapist, and midway through the movie he describes how he met his late wife. For me, the reason why I love this scene is that it puts a lot of things in perspective. Sports are important to me…but at the end of the day, there are more important things.
