On Tuesday, the 3rd week of the College Football Playoff Rankings were released with some teams making notable moves up the polls.
The top 4 are as follows in order: Miss State,Oregon,Flordia State and TCU.
On Saturday, Mississippi State travels to Tuscaloosa to take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama in what some are calling the game of the year. The question posed by commentators and fans is would it be possible that the SEC could not have a team in the top 4 at the end of the season? If you asked any college football fan that question in July they would laugh at you and call you crazy, but what happens if a SEC East team such as Georgia wins the SEC Championship? TCU leap frogged Alabama Tuesday to move into the 4th spot of the rankings, due in large part to the Horned Frogs domination of Kansas State the previous week. Alabama controls their destiny with games left against Mississppi State and Auburn. With victories in those two matchups, Alabama would likely be in the final 4, but what if the SEC West continues to beat each other up? Would a 2 loss SEC West team, be in over a TCU or Baylor, who does not have to play in a championship game? Can Mississippi State win out and maintain the top spot? Could Auburn or Ole miss find a way to make the playoff? Many of these questions will be answered this weekend, but the conversation will continue.
Im predicting in the near future that the playoff will be expanded to atleast 8 teams, and it could start that expansion conversation with a controversy such as SEC team being left out of the College Football Playoff this season.
