Patriots’ Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch: Patriots, Brady Don’t Cut Corners to Win Super Bowls
In the aftermath of the Wells Report and subsequent punishments, former Patriots receiver and Super Bowl XXXIX MVP Deion Branch joined the Jared Stillman and Tom Callahan Show on ESPN Nashville 94.9 Game 2 this morning and said that when he was on the team, the Patriots didn’t cut any corners.
“I know what we did and how we did it, it was done fairly. We didn’t set out to cut any corners to win any games or to win any Super Bowls,” Branch said, “And I don’t feel those guys did that last year,”
Branch also defended his former teammate Tom Brady. “I don’t think Tom set out one time to go and deflate the ball under the PSI. It’s more of a feel thing for these quarterbacks. Every last one of these quarterback does it,” Branch said.
When asked about the possible involvement of head coach Bill Belichick, Branch believes nobody should point the finger at Belichick. “The only ones who knows what’s going on inside the locker room are the actual players. Coach Belichick is nowhere around us. (The) only time we see him are the meetings and when we touch the football field. After that we don’t have any sort of interaction unless we walk in his office.
When asked if he spoke with Brady, Branch said he has to offer his support. “He’s appealing it (the punishments) and I think they’re going to go from there, to see what happens…If not…he said ‘I’m just going to roll with the punches put my head down and keep moving forward’.”
