Originally reported by a Finnish website, blue chip goaltending prospect Juuse Saros has been recalled by the Nashville Predators and now we finally have official word that it’s due to an injury to back-up netminder Carter Hutton.
It’s important to note that Hutton has not been placed on injured reserve meaning this could be short term.
As expected with the initial report this morning, Hutton had spent some unexpected time on the IR earlier this month and, in his first game back, was flipped by Marcus Foligno.
Saros has won his last seven AHL games and was not in net last night or the Admirals. There is some speculation that he will get the start tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. As this is his first NHL recall, it would be his NHL debut as well. Hutton, the expected starter prior to this morning, has owned the Sabres. The goalie is 4-0-0 lifetime against them with a 1.23 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage.
UPDATE (6:22pm): General Manager David Poile confirmed on the Pre-Game Show that Saros will, in fact, make his NHL debut tonight.
