Go ape, Nashville Predators fans! Go ape!
The voice of the Nashville Predators, Pete Weber, supplied the call on our #3 moment of the 2015-16 season. The Preds were facing elimination in Game 6 of their Western Conference Semifinal series with the San Jose Sharks at home when, in the closing moments, James Neal scored to tie the game and force overtime.
In the extra session, rookie winger Viktor Arvidsson scored to send the series to a Game 7 back in Northern California.
The excitement of an overtime goal is exciting, regardless of context. It just so happens that the context of this one was a playoff game, an elimination game and the player’s first career playoff goal. It also meant that the Predators were 3-0 when faced with elimination in the 2016 postseason and it gave 17,000+ screaming fans inside Bridgestone Arena hope that their team could come back from a 3-2 series deficit and go to San Jose and win another Game 7, thereby advancing to the Western Conference Final (the deepest the team had ever been).
Below is the call from Weber on the Preds Radio Network.
Below is the national television broadcast of the incredible backhand goal.
Arvidsson’s backhander to force a Game 7 comes in at #3 on our Top 10 Moments of the 2015-15 Nashville Predators season.
