Recent reports have surfaced that former Tennessee football head coach Phillip Fulmer may be the frontrunner to becoming the Vols’ new Athletic Director.
Fulmer is certainly a worthy candidate after playing on the football team from 1968-1971 and also coaching the Vols to claim the 1998 National Championship.
When asked about the Athletic Director position last week with Jared & The GM, Fulmer said, “I think the trust factor is huge right now for us because we are at a very unique time in our history and everything but as far as I am concerned, me and everything. I just want to see the process that the University has decided in choosing right guy come out.”
Fulmer is not the only one best suited for the job. David Blackburn has been long viewed as the frontrunner for the position. Blackburn is a former Tennessee associate, administrator, graduate and now current athletic director at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
“I still think David Blackburn is the best choice and Phillip Fulmer the second best choice,” Braden Gall said on this morning’s edition of Braden & Fitz.
Despite that fact, many Tennessee fans would be happy and prefer Fulmer as the new Athletic Director due to all that he has done for the University. Some doubt his ability to handle the business side of the job, which Blackburn clearly can handle.
