The fog is beginning to clear, contenders and pretenders are taking shape on the Mid-State high school football scene. Starting at 6 PM, tune in to ESPN 102.5 The Game Blitz to hear Mid-State experts Chase McCabe and Sudzo break down all the Friday Night action.
Schools like Brentwood, Mt. Juliet, Blackman, Oakland and Riverdale are emerging as the favorites in the daunting 6A class. Meanwhile in Class 4A, Greenbrier, Maplewood, Marshall County, and Spring Hill are separating themselves from their competition.
Mt. Juliet still hasn’t allowed an opponent to score this season, they’ve outscored all opponents 165-0 this season.
Battle of the Woods
Ravenwood (3-1) travels to Brentwood (4-0) for a Region 6-6A rivalry game. Brentwood is enjoying a stellar start to their season – the Bruins surrender only 10 points per game on average.
Ravenwood coach Matt Daniels is continuing the school’s history of success in his first year as head coach. However, the Raptors already have one loss in their region, but a win Friday night would propel them back into to the upper echelon of Region 6.
Rutherford Rivalries
Possibly one of the most important games of the season, Riverdale (4-0) is set to play Oakland (3-0). This matchup will be key in determining Region 3-6A, which is notoriously one of the toughest regions.
Oakland already knocked off Maryville this season, this will be another test for the Patriots. With injuries mounting, Riverdale is in for possibly their toughest matchup of the season. Whoever wins this game will be the clear cut state championship favorite.
Two of the best running backs in the state meet up when Blackman (4-0) faces Siegel (2-2). Ohio State commit Master Teague leads an explosive Blackman offense – Blackman averages a staggering 52 points per game.
Lelan Wilhoite (3-star recruit) touts the rock for Siegel, although the Stars haven’t started the season on fire. Sitting at .500 Siegel needs to turn it around in their region to get back in the playoff hunt.
Marshall County vs. Maplewood
Region 4-4A is up for grabs when Marshall County (3-1) squares off with Maplewood (2-1). Both squads are 1-0 in the region and looking to jump ahead of Spring Hill.
Maplewood’s offense appears poised to carry them, led by quarterback Bobo Hodges. Maplewood is averaging 38 points per game while allowing a respectable 20, so far.
Marshall County is ready to bury an opponent this season, both of their wins have been tight fought battles. In order to take the next step they must win convincingly.
