Nashville Predators prospect Pontus Aberg is playing his first year of pro hockey in North America this season. On Friday night, he introduced himself to the Milwaukee Admirals fan base in spectacular fashion en route to the 6-3 victory.
Aberg, Nashville’s first pick in 2012 (second round, 37th overall), carried the puck out of his own zone, through the neutral zone, over the attacking blue line, undressed Carolina Hurricanes prospect Dennis Robertson and slid the puck past the goaltender to give Milwaukee a 2-1 lead. The former Brown University captain appeared to have never seen moves like Aberg’s while playing against ECAC competition.
The future of the Predators is bright. And it’s players like Aberg that make that the case.
As Admirals blogger Daniel Lavender pointed out, pay special attention to fellow Preds prospect Brendan Leipsic’s reaction when he greets Aberg in the corner. As Lavender said “his face was our face.”
