It was a familiar scene Sunday evening for the few in attendance at LP Field. Jake Locker was injured again at the hands of the New York Jets, and the Titans lost again.
What’s the cliche definition of insanity? Doing something over and over again, and expecting something different . The Tennessee Titans, by that cliche, have looked “insane” all season long. It is the worst team to ever step foot on the turf of LP Field, and wear a Tennessee Titans uniform. Can it be fixed soon? It is possible, but highly unlikely. The most successful teams in the NFL, find success with a mixture of the draft and free agency. The 2014 free agency class of the Tennessee Titans has been underwhelming to put it nicely. So where do we start with this pitiful team? The quarterback position is the main concern. Time will tell if Zach Mettenburger is Ken Whisenhunt’s guy, however the team must treat Mettenburger the way they did with Jake Locker. Build the team around this 6th-round pick, and add some play makers. Jake Locker was afforded every opportunity to seize the moment under former coach Mike Munchak, but fell way short. The Titans tried giving Locker weapons by drafting receivers such as Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright . They also spent a lot of money on players on the offensive line such as Andy Levitre, which was supposed to help keep the oft injured Locker upright. You know how this story ends. Jake Locker is most likely out and the Titans must decide on if Mettenburger or someone else, will lead this team under center next season.
Tennessee has to many glaring holes on their depleted roster to possibly miss on another quarterback high in the draft, so lets give Zach Mettenburger the same chances Jake Locker was afforded. He has the big arm Whisenhunt needs for his offense, but all he needs now is a chance to perform. Hopefully for us fans, it will turn out better this time around.
