Newly added Tennessee Volunteers defensive tackle Alexis Johnson was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment Wednesday night.
According to UT Football Beat Writer Dustin Dopirak of the Knoxville News Sentinal, Johnson was arrested on charges of, “aggravated assault (strangulation) and false imprisonment.”
He was booked into jail, at 8:43 pm CT Wednesday and, as of 10:00 pm CT, had not yet been released on bond from the Knox County Detention Center.
The victim is reportedly a former girlfriend of Johnson’s.
Tennessee spokesman Ryan Robinson said the school has been made aware of the report and that Johnson has been, “suspended from all football activities.”
Johnson, a junior college transfer student, just recently enrolled at Tennessee last month after coming to the Vols from Fort Scott Community College.
He was ranked as the 14th overall JUCO prospect and the top defensive tackle on the ESPN JC50.
