Three-time Vezina Trophy finalist Pekka Rinne did not put up the numbers he would’ve liked in the regular season. That said, he was still his teams’ best player on many nights and had a handful of miraculous stops. None were more impressive than when he robbed one of the greatest goal scorers the game has ever seen in Jaromir Jagr.
On December 3, Nashville hosted the Florida Panthers and outshot them 33-16. Unfortunately, this game took place during the month and a half long stretch where they were blitzing teams but couldn’t find the results that would indicate that. On this night, however, Rinne made what many considered one of the saves of the year. With 730 career goals on his resume — one shy of Marcel Dionne for fourth all-time — Jagr thought he was about to tie the Los Angeles Kings legend when Rinne came out of nowhere to get his paddle on the shot and keep the puck out of the net.
Heck, the save was so incredible, Jagr himself took to Twitter afterward.
fans-this is another reason why you shouldn’t vote for me for All-Star game.Old and no good :))) thanks God we won https://t.co/7d2bFG7i1J
