Seattle Seahawks’ Head Coach Pete Carroll joined ESPN 102.5 The Game’s Jared & the GM Wednesday afternoon. Carroll discussed the Titans vs. Seahawks matchup and what to expect from his team.
Seattle touts one of the best defenses in the NFL, especially their secondary with stars like Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas. Through two games this season Seattle has averaged 13 points against and only 188 passing yards per game.
Marcus Mariota faces his toughest challenge of the season against Seattle’s prolific defense. Coach Carroll noted how Mariota’s versatility differentiates him from other quarterbacks in the NFL.
“I think [Mariota] is rolling, he has legs that can run, a good strong arm, and he carries himself well”, Carroll said , “those are good indicators that you can have extremely high hopes for him.”
For the Titans’ defense, applying pressure on Russell Wilson is key to holding the Seahawks’ offense in place. Seattle’s offensive line play was disappointing in the first two games, which bodes well for the Titans’ pass rush.
“We’ve been very young on the offensive line and are young again, that takes time for us to develop. We haven’t started fast in the early part of this year.”, Carroll said.
Coach Carroll raved about his young running back Chris Carson. Despite struggles along the offensive line, Carson is averaging five yards per carry so far this season. Carroll praised Carson’s route running ability and creativity he brings to the Seattle offense.
