Few people can match the passion that Herm Edwards has for both people and football and that’s what makes Herm such a great interviewee. The former NFL coach, and ESPN personality is heading into his second season as the Head Football Coach at Arizona State University after leading the Sun Devils to a surprising 7-5 regular season and a bowl birth in year one. Edwards coached his final NFL season in 2008, and when asked about getting back into coaching and relating to a new generation of player Herm responds just as we’d expect him to, “I don’t do a lot of things good, but I think I can relate to people pretty good.”
This interview was particularly special because of Herm’s relationship with former Titan and Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Mawae. Mawae played for Edwards in New York for one season in 2005 before heading to Nashville to finish his HOF career with Titans, the pair now work together at Arizona State. In this interview you’ll hear stories of a rookie coach leaning on the veteran Mawae and how line-walking “Dirty Christian” always played to the echo of the whistle.
