The Nashville Predators have been busy since the beginning of free agency.
On Thursday Nino Niederreiter signed a 2-year $8 million contract following a big 8-year deal inked by Filip Forsberg back on July 9.
Last season with the Carolina Hurricanes Niederreiter scored 34 points.
Current Predator Mikael Granlund rejoins his teammate from 2013-19 while the duo played for the Minnesota Wild.
Predators general manager David Poile has been active this offseason picking up depth for the Milwaukee Admirals and Nashville.
Going into free agency with $9 million Nashville now has $4 in cap space according to Cap Friendly.
So far Poile has signed eight free agents since the offseason began while trading for defenseman Ryan McDonagh from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There is still time for the Predators to make a big splash before the 2022-23 season. One move may be for restricted free agent Matthew Tkachuk.
Jeremy Rutherford from The Athletic joined Robby & Rexrode to discuss the winger and where he may end up prior to his arbitration case on Aug. 11.
“The biggest thing for any team interested in Matthew Tkachuk, a lot of teams are up against the cap or close to it and you’re going to have to move eight to nine million to make it work,” Rutherford said.
If Tkachuk isn’t traded prior to his arbitration date he will be signed to a 1-year deal regardless with Calgary.
Tkachuk scored 42 goals last season while posting 104 points altogether for the Calgary Flames. He was on a line with former teammate Johhny Gaudreau who scored 88 points on even-strength play.
“He is a difference maker, anyone who puts up 100 plus points is,” Rutherford said. “He does a little bit of everything. There aren’t many players in the league who have the skillset and toughness that he does.”
Rutherford reported Tkachuk informed the Flames that he would not resign with the organization and has a shortlist of who he would sign with long-term.
According to Rutherford’s report alongside Hailey Salvian Tkachuk’s list includes the St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars.
