The 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will feature the Nashville Predators taking on the Dallas Stars on Jan. 1, 2020. The game will be played at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
“It really is exciting,” Predators president and CEO Sean Henry said with Jared & The GM Friday. “This is a real big complement to our fans and the city.”
Henry continued, “The visiting team is always picked on what fan base will travel well and will they? So the complement to our fans is huge. Basically the league is saying Nashville is playing in Dallas on New Year’s Day, and because of that Nashville is going to have a large portion of the stadium wearing gold. That is, I think, the ultimate in saying to our fans, look at what you’ve created in your market.”
This Winter Classic will be the first-ever outdoor game appearance for both the Predators and Stars. For the NHL, it will mark the 12-year anniversary of the Winter Classic.
“Looking at the leaguewide events – whether it’s games in Europe, games in the Far East, the draft, the awards, Stadium Series or Winter Classic – we’re talking all the time about how to host, and then how to participate,” Henry said. “The way this lays out, we’re going to be the away team next year. Ideally in the very near future we’re breaking the news that Nashville will be featuring another showcase event. That’s what we want to be a part of.”
