As NHL teams prepare to head to the hub cities of Edmonton and Toronto for the NHL’s Return to Play, the league is starting to share details on how they plan to broadcast these games without fans in the arenas. There will be a dozen more cameras than usual, crowd noise pumped into the arena by EA Sports and a rink-wide stage featuring LED screens, as seen here:

“A lot of [cameras] will be in position where fans usually sit, so that’s going to be an interesting thing for the producers and directors in terms of the angles they utilize for different facets of the game,” NBC Sports’ Pierre McGuire said on Friday’s edition of Darren, Daunic & Chase.
“I’ve been in the NHL since 1990 and to think you’re going to be in a building and there’s not going to be any noise except for the skates cutting into the ice or slap shots going off goal posts or going wide off the boards or bodies going into the glass … it’s going to sound so different without crowd noise,” said McGuire, who will be working most games in Edmonton. “That’s going to be a totally foreign concept for me.”
For Pete Weber and Hal Gill on the Fifth Third Bank Nashville Predators Radio Network, they’ll be broadcasting games live from the event level of Bridgestone Arena in front of monitors. The same goes for Willy Daunic and Chris Mason on the TV side of things.
This event level room inside @BrdgstoneArena will be the “office” for @PeteWeberSports & @Skillsy75 on @1025TheGame and the @PredsNHL Radio Network! 👀👀
