Longtime Bengals receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh joined Darren, Daunic & Chase Tuesday afternoon before the Titans visit his former team on Saturday. Houshmandzadeh, who currently coaches high level NFL prospects and is a contributor for FS1’s football coverage, claims a top spot in the Mike Vrabel fan club.
“Mike Vrabel is the best coach in the league, in my opinion,” Houshmandzadeh said on 102.5 The Game. “He’s the best coach in the NFL and it’s kind of crazy because, when people speak of the best coaches, his name rarely comes up. I just look at what he’s done with Tennessee in the time he’s been there, that’s coaching man.”
Vrabel’s impact screams at Houshmandzadeh through his television every week. So how does that show?
“The players seem to believe in whatever the gameplan is. They believe in it. It’s showing. They upset Baltimore in the playoffs, [I] thought that the Titans would not be what they are this year. They had a great year last year, they aren’t gonna be as good as they were–They’re better! That’s coaching!”
Houshmandzadeh also sees Vrabel’s quarterback as a product of the head coach.
“Ryan Tannehill couldn’t play in Miami,” Houshmandzadeh said. “Look at him now, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league. That’s coaching. You have to give the credit to Mike Vrabel and his staff. It’s as black and white as it can get… Adam Gase couldn’t get anything out of him and all of a sudden he goes to Tennessee. Mike Vrabel, I’m sure, has taught him defensive football–which is key for any quarterback–and he’s taken off.”
Houshmandzadeh also praised Vrabel’s development of AJ Brown, who has overperformed based off his draft position in TJ’s eyes through a season and a half. He also lauds Vrabel’s clock management and successful stretching of the rule book.
He spent a decade in Cincy sharing the spotlight with Chad Ochocinco, and now TJ Houshmandzadeh shines that spotlight right on Mike Vrabel as the Titans face his former team.
