Late Wednesday night, the Nashville Predators acquired forward Michael Bunting and a 2026 fourth round pick in return for Tommy Novak and Luke Schenn.
General manager Barry Trotz has now moved three roster players since last Saturday. It started when Gustav Nyquist was moved to the Minnesota Wild for a 2026 second round pick in return last Saturday.
Bunting is currently in year two of three of his current contract making a salary of $4.50 million per year and has scored 29 points in 58 games this season. According to Puck Pedia, Bunting has a 10-team no-trade list this season and will not have one in the final year of his contract next season.
He’s still on injured reserve after undergoing an appendectomy last week.
As for Schenn and Novak, they join a Penguins team that currently sits in 15th place in the Eastern Conference and is eight points outside of the final Wild Card spot.
Novak finishes his time in Nashville with 201 games played scoring 22 points. He signed a three-year deal worth $10.50 million just last March.
Now he’ll rejoin former Nashville teammates Philip Tomasino and Cody Glass back on offense for the rest of the season in the Steel City.
Schenn skated in 124 games for the Predators organization and scored 12 points. The D-man has one more year left on his contract and has been a solid skater on the blue line since getting to Nashville.
Multiple NHL insiders are saying that Schenn could be flipped in another deal before the deadline clock strikes zero on Friday.
